Parents should read the bible verses and think about their own unique qualities that God has used to bless others. Pray before beginning this exercise for God’s wisdom and discernment.

Cooking tools:

Bible, Paper, Pens, Cozy blanket.

Preparation Spend time with your youth asking questions and discussing self-image. Ask: Have you ever wondered why God created you? Look at the birds outside (you could also look for squirrels, chipmunks or whatever animal happens to be around). How many different kinds of birds do you see? Why did God create so many different species of birds?

Mix together Seasonings

Add a relational spice: Talk to your youth about the unique physical features he or she has that distinguishes him from others. For example, talk about the shape of his face and the color of his eyes or his dimples. Next, talk about his unique gifts, talents and personality traits. Again ask: “Why do you think God created you with your unique features?

Add a few spiritual and experiential spices: As a family read Psalm 139:1-6. What do these verses say about how well God knows you? As you read each parent, grandparent or spiritual father/mother will sit on either side of the youth and wrap a blanket around all of you. Read Psalm 139:5. Talk about how God is before us and behind us and that He has laid His hand upon us. What does that mean? Next, have the father, grandfather or spiritual father lay his hand on the youth and pray a spiritual blessing.

Add relational and instructional spices: As a family read Psalm 139:13-16. How were you created? Sit with another member of your family and tell the other person about their unique qualities. Talk about how each of those unique features could be used by God to love and serve others.

Add experiential and instructional spices: As a family read Psalm 139:17-18. Get a jar of rice or sand and shake some grains onto the table. Observe the vast number of grains. Discuss how much God loves His creation and He thinks about each one of us.

Add a spiritual spice: Pray with your youth using Psalm 139:23-24. Ask God to search his heart and thoughts to reveal any sin that may cause him to have a poor self-image.
