  1. Group: What happens to you, your spirit, your mood, your attitude when the days are short, the weather is gloomy and overcast versus when the day is bright, sunny and long?
  2. Group: Read and discuss 1 John 2:7-11, The Heart of Spirituality. Why does John mention that the command to love is something old yet something new. What is fresh about this old command in Christ and in you?
  3. Individual: Read through 1 John 2:7-11. Now pray over this section especially verses 2:9-11. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal and expose to you if you have any darkness of spirit, any unforgiveness, any resentment, any hurtful way in you towards others. Now, worship Jesus for His love and forgiveness towards you and surrender your hurt to Him. Ask Him to cleanse your spirit and your mind.
  4. Individual: Read the Good Samaritan Parable — Luke 10:25- 37 — Be the neighhor. Be on the look out for ways you can demonstrate this love to a friend, a family member, a colleague and or someone you don’t know but see in need.
  5. Group: Share an experience of being the neighbor or how you have experienced someone helping you. What did you learn from these experiences?
  6. Share an experience you have had when your heart is “gloomy” and how that affects your outlook, your relationships, your view of yourself. Now share an experience about when your heart is “sunny” and how that affects your relationships, your thoughts, your outlook on life .... Now read Proverbs 4:18 and share your thoughts on what this now means to you.
  7. Partner: Find someone who can you confide in this week and ask them to pray with you about the climate of your heart. Meet once a week for a month to give an update on how your sunny-side up attitude.
