Core Principles
From Leaderpedia
The ConneXions model was developed by LeaderSource. For a full description plus access to many resources, see LeaderSource.org. Here we provide a basic overview of the core principles of the model for easy reference in the Learning Experiences and Collage Designs.
The goal of leader development is healthy leadership. ConneXions uses the 5Cs model to describe a healthy leader: who knows Christ, lives in community, has character, knows his or her calling, and has the competencies to lead people in accomplishing this purpose.
Leaders are built using four dynamics. Jesus' method of building leaders is summarized in Mark 3. In short, Jesus created a transformational context around His emerging leaders:
- A spiritual environment, involving relationship with God (with Himself, as well as with the Father through prayer).
- A relational web, involving relationship with a mature leader (Himself), and relationships with others (the community of the disciples).
- An experiential context, involving challenging assignments and a diversity of learning opportunities.
- Instructional content, imparted within this transformational context.
Thus, context+content = the process of leader development. Usually, in leader development design, we have focused mostly on instruction. However, we must give significant attention to the 4Ds or four dynamics of transformation: spiritual, relational, experiential, instructional.
Within that framework, we use 18 principles of leader development, in six groups. These principles are discussed in detail in Building Leaders: SpiritBuilt Leadership #4.
