Bad Leaders (Module 3)

Context: Team
Focus: Comprehensive

Bad leadership models can be just as effective as good ones – sometimes more so – at gaining insight into the nature of leadership.

In your team, using the supplied resources please study at least three of the following leaders:

  • Mussolini
  • Mao
  • Lenin
  • Citizen Kane
  • Stalin
  • Genghis Khan
  • Jim Jones

Please watch Animal Farm.

As you study, discuss “bad leadership.” Use conceptual models you’ve been given to help you understand the lives and leadership that you observe in this research.

Make sure you take notes during your study and team discussions.

Assess these examples of bad leadership according to what you have learned:

  • What leadership is (especially the section on abusive leadership).
  • What leaders are.
  • What leaders do.

Be sure to make specific comparisons between good and bad leadership as part of your assessment.

Then prepare a 30 minute Cohort presentation (using whatever media forms you think appropriate) on what you’ve learned about leadership through the lives of these men. These presentations may be given at separate times to the whole Cohort.

Together the entire Cohort will have a discussion after each team presentation.
